Bushwick is a neighborhood with working-class residents who reside in the northern part of Brooklyn. It is situated in the northern portion of Brooklyn, New York City. It lies inside Ridgewood, Queens, to the northeast; Williamsburg to the northwest; East New York and the cemetery of Highland Park to the southeast; Brownsville to the south Bedford-Stuyvesant in the Southwest.

The Dutch founded the town during their Dutch settlement in the Americas in the 17th century. It was that the town was transformed into an area comprised of German immigrants as well as their descendants. The 20th century saw an increase in Italian immigrants and Italian-Americans from the mid-70s until the mid-80s. In the final 20 years of the 20th century, the neighborhood changed from being predominantly Hispanic because of another wave. The area was once called Brooklyn’s 18th Ward. The area had been an independent city that had seen numerous territorial changes throughout its long growth history.

Bushwick’s boundaries usually cross that is part of Brooklyn Community Board 4, where Flushing Avenue is identified on the North. Broadway in the Southwest, the border separating Queens in the northeast, Queens on the northern side, and Cemetery inside of the Evergreens to the south. The industrial zone that lies north of Flushing Avenue, west of Bushwick Avenue, and south of Grand Street is commonly considered East Williamsburg. Sometimes, it’s situated in Bushwick and, at times, is one of the areas of the “Industrial Bushwick.”

Together with Breukelen and Bedford, Alongside Bedford and Breukelen, Bushwick town was added to Brooklyn. The Brooklyn City of Brooklyn in January 1854. It also included present-day Williamsburg and Greenpoint. Before the merger, around the start of the 17th century, the first housing project was planned in the Williamsburg district, located in the western region of Bushwick. Williamsburg was officially recognized as an official town in the year 1827. The city was then officially split from Bushwick in 1839. Today, East Williamsburg is not an element of Williamsburg and was created to be East Brooklyn’s 18th Ward from the annexation of Bushwick. It is currently part of Brooklyn Community District 1. East Williamsburg sections are sometimes thought to be part of Bushwick. H&A Brooklyn Plumbing

1638 Between 1638 and 1638 1638, The Dutch West India Company secured an agreement with local Lenape residents of 1638 who lived 1638 within 1638 in the Bushwick region. Peter Stuyvesant chartered the area in 1661 and designated the area Boswijck which translates to “neighborhood in the woods” in 17th-century Dutch. Boswijck’s boundaries encompassed the present neighborhoods, which include Bushwick, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint. Bushwick was the last of the Six Dutch towns in Brooklyn founded in the New Netherlands.
