Tips For Unclogging That Problematic Sink

Clogs drains are an extremely common problem. While this might be unfortunate, they are something that you will likely deal with at least once or twice in your life. This is especially true if you are a homeowner. While our professionally trained and highly skilled New York techs can and are more than willing to solve your problems, we understand that times are tough. Not only this but getting someone out to the problem can be a hassle. Not to mention that delaying the problem might lead to more, expensive problems. Regardless, there are some simple things that you can try yourself to perhaps fix the problem

Plunging

For this, you are obviously going to need a plunger. It doesn’t need to be a special plunger. It can just be your ordinary, plain plunger that you’d get from a local store. This is without a doubt the easiest and best approach to start with. That being said, you’ll certainly want to make sure that you don’t use the same plunger that you use in your toilet. This would just be unsanitary!

To start, you’ll want to fill the sink or tub with hot warm water. Fill it about halfway. If you are dealing with a double bay sink, you’ll likely have to plug one side with a stopper or rag so that you can build proper pressure. From this point, you’ll want to start plunging the problematic side. Work the plunger at an aggressive pace for about five to ten seconds.

Once you are done, if the problem has been resolved the water will drain. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the plunging method will work the first time or within the first five to ten seconds, but more than likely if the problem is fixable, it will work right off. If this works, this might be all you have to do and you’ll save yourself a lot of time, money, and effort.

If this doesn’t work, there are still other things that you can try. Continue with the next step if you are still experiencing problems.

Make A Useful Concoction

For this step, you are going to need the following items:

4 cups

1 pair of rubber gloves

1 cup of baking soda

1 cup of vinegar

1 bucket or a container

1 sink stopper

1 spatula

Start by putting on the rubber gloves for protection. Then take one of the cups and empty the remaining hot water from the sink. Empty the sink or tub into your spare bucket or container.

When the sink or tub is empty, you can pour a cup of baking soda down the drain. Use the spatula or similar utensil to ensure that all the baking soda goes down the drain. Follow up by also pouring the vinegar down the drain and plug the hole with your sink stopper. You’ll notice that the concoction starts to bubble. This is a good thing and you might have to force the entirety of the mixture down the drain, but you are taking a step in the right direction.

Give the mixture around five minutes to work its magic then remove the sink stopper and run more hot water down the drain. If the water goes down, you might be all finished. If the water doesn’t go down, you’ll want to continue with 4 cups of hot, boiling water. Carefully! Carefully, pour all 4 cups down the drain. If the problem remains, repeat the entirety of this step. You’ll pour the baking soda, vinegar, and hot water down the drain again in the same order.
